Picture this: Your grandmother’s cherished mid-century modern rocking chair, its seat sagging with decades of family stories, gets a fresh lease on life through expert binding cane and Danish cord weaving.

At Caning Canada, we’re passionate about sustainable vintage furniture restoration in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna—and across all of Canada—using time-honoured techniques that honour our shared history. Since 1986, we’ve revived heirlooms like Cesca chairs and Hans Wegner icons, weaving in personal narratives that fast furniture could never match.

Why now? Our Fort Langley winter home brings mobile expertise right to your doorstep in western hubs, with mail-ins welcome from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario and right across Canada.
Fort Langley workshop is accessible to Seattle, Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, through Weaving Truck meets and Fort Langley drop offs. We'll be back to Alberta in the Spring for Calgary, and Edmonton.
Restoration isn’t just repair—it’s a 20–50% value boost (Foxwood Restorations) and a 30–60-year life extension, all while slashing carbon emissions by 80% versus new buys (Greenpeace).

Why Choose Binding Cane and Danish Cord for Your Heirlooms?

Restoring with binding cane (those thick rattan strands for strong lattice patterns) or Danish cord (durable, twisted paper for tensioned MCM seats) isn’t merely functional—it’s a heartfelt act of preservation. These techniques breathe new life into family treasures, keeping stories alive across generations.
As Wild Woodworking notes, “Preserving vintage pieces keeps memories alive”—imagine your child’s laughter echoing from a revived Wegner rocker, passed down with pride.
Here’s why Caning Canada’s approach stands out for chair caning near me in Vancouver or beyond:
• Sustainability First: Our FSC-certified materials dodge the EPA’s staggering 12 million tons of annual furniture waste, extending piece life by 30–60 years and cutting landfill contributions.
• Heirloom Heart: We treat every chair like a chapter in your family’s tale—William from Victoria shares: “Laurie and David… are always blown away by their exquisite attention to detail and the passion involved in restoring every piece masterfully.”
• Value That Lasts: Boost worth by 20–50% while saving up to 50% versus new (Angi)—our restorations start at $225 per seat, delivering superior durability that outshines mass-produced options.
• Expert Craft: Tailored for icons like Møller or Breuer, ensuring authentic, Canadian-proud results.
Whether you’re in Vancouver’s vibrant scene or Edmonton’s cozy homes, these weaves combat fast furniture’s toll. Explore more on our Danish Cord Weaving page.

• Protect: Avoid excessive moisture.
• Inspect: Check for loose strands.
• Humidity: Use dehumidifiers in damp areas.
• Sunlight: Avoid direct exposure to prevent fading.
Cane:
• Cleaning: Use wood soap (e.g., Murphy’s Oil Soap) with a soft cloth. Allow two days to dry.
• Oiling: Apply lemon or teak oil to the porous underside once or twice yearly. Wipe off excess after 15 minutes.
• Avoid Damage: Keep the cane away from heat vents, direct sunlight, or dry rooms to prevent brittleness.
• Tighten Sagging: Wet the underside with a warm, damp towel and let it dry for two days to restore tension.
